Summit County Continuum of Care Receives $2,500 Grant Award to Support Transportation Stability Initiative

May 12, 2026

AKRON, Ohio — May 12, 2026 — The Summit County Continuum of Care (SCCoC) is proud to announce it has received a $2,500 grant award in support of its Mobility Is Stability Initiative (MISI), a program focused on reducing transportation barriers for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability in Summit County.

The funding will help provide practical transportation assistance that supports employment retention, housing stability, and access to critical services. Through the initiative, SCCoC assists individuals with needs such as public transit passes, gas cards tied to employment retention, emergency minor vehicle repairs, driver’s license or state identification assistance, and transportation support for housing appointments and job interviews.

“Transportation is often one of the most overlooked barriers to housing and employment stability,” said Christopher Richardson, Executive Director of the Summit County Continuum of Care. “This investment helps us respond quickly to real-life barriers that can make the difference between someone maintaining employment and housing or falling deeper into crisis. We are grateful for this support and the opportunity to continue building pathways toward long-term stability.”

The Mobility Is Stability Initiative is grounded in the belief that reliable transportation directly impacts economic opportunity. By addressing mobility barriers early, the program aims to prevent job loss, reduce housing instability, and strengthen overall community resilience.

SCCoC will track outcomes including employment retention, housing stability, and reductions in transportation-related work disruptions to measure the impact of the initiative and inform future community partnerships.

The Summit County Continuum of Care coordinates and leads a collaborative, countywide response to homelessness by engaging service providers, local governments, healthcare systems, advocates, and community partners in strategies focused on prevention, housing access, and system improvement.
